I knew they had one here so I made plans to take it. One company I worked with did some of the vision recognition systems for self driving cars, all the radar and LiDAR and visible light cameras and then the post processing and prediction of what it’s seeing. It’s intriguing how it anticipates and sometimes oddly navigates. It’s surprisingly quick on the acceleration at times. It doesn’t always use turn signals on lane changes (maybe it knows it doesn’t need to if no one’s behind?). And it hard braked when someone on the far side of the street wandered into the crosswalk. It was very interesting. And as someone pointed out, there are ethical considerations if the AI must ever choose “who should I run over if I cannot avoid 2 things?” I did a consultation engagement on this just a few months ago with a firm.
