In an effort to reduce waste and to extend life onto a garment or a piece of fabric, I am a huge proponent and supporter of the visible mending movement. I really like seeing when fabrics are repaired and all of the layers and stitching that goes over the patchwork. It’s signifies life and being worn and I think that’s beautiful.
I have these linen sheets I’ve been using for a while, and bed linens are quite expensive! Through many washes it’s worn out a bit, but I want to repair some of the holes. I have a bunch of beautiful scrap fabrics with different patterns on them so I started repairing it today. I first used an embroidery hoop to add tension around the hole while I hand sewed some running stitches around it.
I really love how it came out. I still have a few more holes to mend, but I can’t wait to keep adding more patches onto the holes. I think it gives it so much more personality and life. 🩵
